In the process of tweaking my new box I resurrected an old free stuff scene to check times. 7+ hours but there is a ton of reflective/transparent objects in the scene and that's where the render slowed to a crawl. Note the 3 oblong grey glass candle holders with a transparent blue 'liquid' inside..the shade on the lamp, the mirror, the flower vase on the glass table, which is a variable transparency with a merge shader, top. plus 2 objects out of scene which I don't think count in the render time. It came with a patio and I added a further population to fill it out.
C&C welcome.

Thanks Kadri...yeah..it was done on all 4's heh heh heh...  .4 Detail, 4 AA, 4 GI Detail, 4 GI Quality...highest I can go on the free version is .6 Detail and 4 AA so I doubt I can get it much better...maybe higher atmo samples....

Cool room, Bobby. Yeah, the grain. You could do yourself a favor and get the paid version  ;) What about the tree? It's white, but that is hard for you to see perhaps? Or is it an 'art tree'?

bobbystahr

Thanks Ulco, and yes perhaps I could, and in fact might have this summer had I not had that CPU meltdown which used up my meager savings.
Bear in mind I'm on a subsistence pension and had I not inherited my house I'd not be able to afford the net and eat in the same month. I ain't complaining as I know peers here in just the situation I described, one room, no pets, no smoking, can't afford luxuries, and mac and cheese 5 times a week. $1000.00 a month don't go as far as it used to.

That one in the room? it's bamboo and I'm guessing this would be a WIP were I not testing the new machine. It needs a new texture I'm guessing as this scene came completely dressed and it looked O K in PoseRay when I fixed the parts shader.

Very nice room!
It remembers me a little to where my Grandma lived.

Little wishes:
Do I see white mountains in the background? Ok - the bamboo needs some work.
Anyway... Take some time and craft a bit around it. It's worth it  :)

Based on the comments I think I'll consider this a WIP and fix the broken parts...thanks for the comments.

models from JBJDesigns at sharecg if anyone is interested in playing around with them.

Well..this is a full size lo res test of the new elements(bamboo in and out side)
tweaks to the square column floating candles glass and liquid textures/transparency; and as it was still rendering in under 8 hours I decided to add 3 point lights to the candle flames. I figger why not as it's already an over nighter. heh heh heh. The bamboo is from a DAZ product I got with a gift certificate when I was a Mod. Way better; I looked at the included ones up close and the mapping wasn't the only problem so I binned them. I think the out doors bamboo and the bushes need some translucency on the leaves with the sun coming from basically behind them.
Happy with the Merge shader's handling of variable transparency in the table glass as well.

Better now! Especially the indoors bamboo!

I personally would like a bigger table. The candle holders look a bit big.
But anyway better and better!

Cool elephant statue  :)

Echo Doc. I don't actually understand the grain, it's in the wall and sofa's mainly, no atmo. Why is it there? Isn't it displacement that is too rough for your level of detail?

Nice improvements here bobby! Would be nice to address the grains as mentioned before.  :)

That version is reeeealy lo res Ulco, Detail .2, AA 2   GI Detail & Quality both 1. Didn't want to waste 10 hours to be disappointed. the rose vase needs tweaking for sure from this render...as well as all the others I mentioned in my last post.
Doc...that's the way it all came so I just this time haven't tweaked anything for size...at higher res you will see the stones in the 'liquid' the candles are 'floating' on...seems a bit dark lower res. The stones etc being the reason they're so large. This came as all separate obj's and I just kept merging them in Deep Ex till I had the room and patio. Will likely have the tweaks done for an over nite tomorrow...have a gig at 9 so I'll set it in motion at 8 when I leave the house and check on it in the morning.

Had a light bulb/D'oh moment when I realized I have a Full TG2 so can do larger and higher res...hadn't installed it on the new box so searched out my key and then loaded the scene into it...lost the pops and had to replace all the glass with water shaders but I like it. If you look in this latest 3.5 hr. 800x450 test render you'll notice that there's no noise closer to the light source and the noise increases with distance from the light. Maybe more Atmo samples?

You could try more atmo and do a crop, but it's not too bad now. What I would do is get more stuff outside, like a mountain, or trees, or whatever. It's a bit empty.
