Here is my latest render .... after more than 25 hours of render time an 4 software crashes
(see topic:http://forums.planetside.co.uk/index.php?topic=2035.0

The problem was the high render quality of the foreground. With more than 0.5 TG crashes so i have to crop the image (6 parts). Bottom / foreground rendered with 0.35 the other parts with 0.85.

The 'grass' was done with this functions http://forums.planetside.co.uk/index.php?topic=2019.0
... but .... I won't do it again. It takes too much time!

What do you think?

How beautiful and magnificent.  I almost hate to say that the grass looks stiff, since I know what it took to get here.  Anyway, it's grand.  I love the lighting and the clouds and the excellent mountains in the background.  Great picture!  And, last and not least, the cool tree limb is a nice effect.

I love the lighting of this scene, and the composition isn't bad either.  The grass effect came out well - as Calio said, they look a bit stiff though.  I just thought - if you plugged a power fractal into a redirect shader and then plugged that into your grass, you might be able to add procedural curves to it which could make it much more realistic.

...and, to add to o_b's suggestions, you could do a blend shader to give a more blotchy field of grass rather than a full field.

Beautiful colors.

Fall is my favorite time of year  :D

I particularly like the lighting on the clouds.

Very nice image overall. The "grass" effect is a unique use of extreme, noisy displacement. But it this is undoubtedly the source of your crashing problem. This is a very extreme case for the displacement engine.

If you think of it as wheat/grain instead of grass it certainly doesn't look that "stiff' anymore. Nice work!

Andy,

Believe it or not, grain is never straight up like that.  It sort of bends a little.  I grew up in the Midwest and have seen lots of grain fields.

This is a great scene, but I must also say that the grass looks a little stiff.

AndyWelder: Cool signature. Do it mean the same as mine? :)

@ TinkPink    Wow - very nice results! I really like the functional grass - the picture looks great!

@ sjefen       Additional to his bunny, Andy wants to send us greetings from Eindhoven in his signature. Eindhoven is somewhere in the 'Promised Land' as I call it ('das gelobte Land' in german)   ;) ;D...  but you may also say 'the Netherlands'...
