Hi there,

Have had this idea to utilize the GIS data that is becoming more freely available online for a while now. I managed to find a 1m DEM of my home city, and have overlaid a satellite image and a building footprint mask to create displacement. I wrote a simple OpenCV program to make it easy to create image masks for areas of vegetation, and used that to populate the different layers of trees and shrubs.

The DEM doesn't quite line up with the satellite image, and there is plenty more work to be done here. But the concept has been proven.

Thanks for viewing :)

The initial results look very promising! Great detail, and I like that you've managed to derive vegetation maps.

Wow...this is very cool. I echo Oshyan's comments...This program you wrote extracts from the DEM?
