.. so the Colonel says "I need you fighter pilots to do a quick ore bod recon".

Trouble is we're no surveyor ship, with not even any advanced analysis equipment aboard a fast fighter like ours.

... we've managed to break loose a chunk of the object with the ion cannon but it was hell maneuvering it
into the missile hold. Lt. Brantson says the material repelled our grappler. Got an odd feeling about this place.
I'm no exogeologist but there is something weird about this asteroid, be glad to get the sample back to the docking station,

Cool. Only the far space area is a bit 'sharp', and I thought, what if you use a little blur for the distance?

fleetwood

I think you're right. Had a hard time with the far nebulae looking very rough in the small details making it appear like noise. Seems the black background accentuates all small "holes" in the fractals.
Will experiment with some form of blur.

Er.... unobtanium, maybe?

Dontouchmium....................... :P

I was thinking some type of highly diamagnetic bismuth compound. Most likely a large deposit of Pepto-Bismol.

So it has a bright pink core?       :D

Some background blur using post processing. I attempted using DOF in Terragen which produced a very similar background, but maintaining  focus on both ship and asteroid objects not possible due to having started out with a wide angle lens setting. Redefining that would involve re-positioning both camera and objects.
