This is what you get when you load a "limb template" in Speedtree before you load a trunk. If I can figure out how to change the intersection point, you could make some natural tipi. Some fiddling needs to be done.............. ;D

Looks like they're stalks on a plane. Change the start angle of the stalks and you can make a tipi. Especially if you set the start and endpoints in generation around 1. Do you have a version where you can hand handle individual stalks/trunks? Use tab then.
