Below are Dropbox links to 3 trees I've created in Blender.  Because Blender is open source, these trees are free to use as anyone wishes and are freely shareable.
These trees are WIPS . I'm still learning how to use this particular set of functions in Blender and I know they could stand improvement.  What I would really appreciate is feedback about how they can be better. Can't say I will or even am able to follow thru (anyone who's worked with Blender understands how convoluted and non-intuitive the interface is and the learning curve is atrocious) but having good feed back from others is very useful to me as I develop these.
In return for feedback, my idea is to periodically make some of these assets available here as I create them for my images.
Thanks in advance!  :)         please let me know if there are issues.

Had a quick look at no5 +no8.
No5 has missing trunk parts on the 'backside'.

This refers to Tree 8 only:

The scale is off, the attached render has it resized by a factor of 0.2. Leaf translucency should be set, it is zero in the TGO. I upped it to .9 in this render. Is there a way to make selected branches thicker? Of course it depends on the tree species, but I see a rather thick trunk and then relatively thin branches growing out of it. None of the branches seem to branch out further (other than into the twig clusters), can you model something like a split? The center top is a bit leaf-heavy. I do like this model and I am impressed with the rather fine branching and leaf size that matches the tree (often you see leaves larger than what they should be). I can't see many sharp corners, which is good!

This makes me hopeful that Blender could be used as competent (and free!) modeling tool for objects that can be freely shared.

Thanks for taking the effort to create these. I hope there can be more :)

Thanks for the feedback.  The new version (5D - see link below) fixes this.

More of Tree 8: Nice bark, too.

Here is a closeup with Chris' "More Moss" models, which are also lovely!

Otakar, very cool!   :)
I've just started a new job here, and will get to work this weekend on making the changes you discussed. Thanks a lot for the feedback!.

Geometry fixed, but now you get an error message.
Seems you forgot to reassign the images correctly before saving as tgo.
Easy to fix.

Something else. The spec maps are not really needed for tree objects like these.
I'd get rid of them at least for the bark parts. Saves memory also.
Bump/displ maps for the twigs are a bit of overkill too, unless for close up hero
models. So maybe they should go as well.

Unfortunately it's even worse now.
The first one did not show these errors. You could compare that to 5F and
try to figure out what to change to make it work.
These things can be tedious and boring, I know.
Keep going you'll get there.

I only got one error, the one with COLOR in the name, but I found the texture and re-saved as a .tgo and it loaded without errors.

Well, another try....
Only way I can figure to make these files work for everyone else is to specify an absolute path name when extracting files from zip archive.
My particular setup is to park these tree objects under directory c:\trees\<tree_name>\
So for that attached Test Tree 12, the full pathname to specify at time of zip extraction is c:\trees\test_tree_12\
Can you try and see if works for you?
