I like the way the program works, its really quite intuitive but I don't know how to generate foliage on the thing, or how to put actual surfaces on the model once its produced. Guidance?

Use PoseRay. I don't have the link handy, but googling or just searching the forum will turn it up.

When generating the model in Arbaro, check the 'generate uv coordinates' checkboxes. Open the exported .inc in PoseRay, and you can assign colors and textures to the various material groups, then export the completed model as an .obj/mtl pair. There are a couple of tricks regarding texture path names and PoseRay settings. Mess around with it and search the forums here for more info.

If you set textures in PoseRay I normally save from PoseRay to a different directory from where the original document is.  When saving, check "Copy all maps to the same directory". The resulting mtl file will not have any path information with the filenames and will import nicely into TG...

Or you can just export it as is from PoseRay and then edit the textures in TG.
