Franks points are all valid.

My main reason of leaving the sky empty on this scene was to focus the viewers attention on the terrain. Too many elements in a scene can make it congested and ruin the composition. I did render a version with clouds but thought this one was emphasising the terrain more, which I wanted all along.

true observation - realistic clouds are a difficult discipline, still. Well, depending on the type of clouds. It's easier to leave the sky empty, and rely on TG2 doing a great job on rendering the ground. That being said, having clouds also has an influence of the lighting of the terrain, of course. Then additionally, you generally have to decide whether you choose an exposure optimzed for the sky or for the terrain. If you choose a compromise between the two exposures, neither the sky or the ground will stand out to its greatest potential. Difficult choices.

Thank you Frank for your explanation, it really helped me understanding this issue! Have you seen Luc's last picture? Truly amazing job with the clouds (the rest as well ;)). I guess there's more to come on the horizon (pun intended)... :)

Sounds reasonable. I didn't intend to complain anyway :-[
The colors and composition look a bit like early Vista screenshots to me (oh, I hope you don't see this as something bad ;))...

HEHEH, I think your image is more realistic than your inspiration, it seems a fake composition of photos (the rocks and the mirror effect on the water)!!!!!!!  :D

Hannes

Hey, I think I missed that. Great. I love the distribution of the trees.
