I realized the entire time I have been here I have not posted a pic. So I thought after being here almost 10 years I probably should. Old pic and one I am most proud of. Took 13 hours to render on the computer I had at the time and this is a rather old pic I think I still had my P4 3.6Ghz with HT when I made this.

Thank you. I have been trying to get Terragen 4 Beta to be nice but so far I have only gotten one test render to finish all other crash the beta along with my vid driver and in one case BSODed so back to 3 until it's more stable I guess.

Cool image. There's a great sense of depth. The only thing that could use some improvement is the cloud layer. It looks quite splotchy (is this the real word?). There should be some more detail.

Current system no just the normal "Turbo" mode that my CPU can use if needed. As far as it being a real place it's just my view of an ice world. Was first time I played with 3D clouds when they were still experimental back in the day heh.

The wish for more detail comes a bit later for me - when I look a longer time at the image.

Even though I have disable screen saver during render enabled, I still had to go in and manually change screensaver settings. That is when I got bluescreen and hangups that eventually stopped but not without teeth gnashing.  As Oshyan said, disable RTP when adjusting anything, as this is also a sure way to get stuck. My pc eventually catches up, but we all know that feeling...(Did I save??)

My issues with T4 honestly have only been when I start a render even a small little test scene with no fancy options. I have waited for the Terreign to load up before checking RTP and had no issues it's only when I start a render and my CPU shoots up to 85-90c+ before the program crashes or kills my display driver. Wish there was a way to put the load on my videocard since I have a Titan X and it would be able to handle it no problem cause even playing games at 2K in DSR and streaming them and down scaling to 720p60FSP for my Twitch rarely gets near 70c

I am not the one to help you with this technical info, but have you asked about this in Terragen Discussion on this forum? I have a four year old HP that is really doing okay with TG4Beta so far, crossing my fingers! I do not understand half of what they talk about when changing bucket controls and such, perhaps a pro could help you.

Interesting info regarding the temps you're seeing! We hear all the time "I am using other stressful apps, so my machine is not the problem". Well, I am at SIGGRAPH today and heard a funny story from someone who had a small render farm in their home for a while. They said they would blow fuses on their power circuit sometimes, but *only* when rendering with Mental Ray! Rendering with other renderers, including Cinema 4D, Arnold, and more, did not cause the issue! You can imagine, these are all high performance rendering applications that *theoretically* use system resources in a similarly demanding way, and yet only one was causing an issue. Mental Ray was for some reason just *using more power*. So I suggest you might consider that, even though many other apps work for you, the crashes might still be hardware-related. You might try a stress test application such as Prime95, or another similar option, something that is really designed specifically for stressing your hardware. Because the thing is 90+ degree temps are not normal nor sustainable for normal CPUs, and it can't really be Terragen's "fault" that you are hitting such temps, it's just doing its best to use all CPU resources (and succeeding!).

Ya I just never noticed it prior it's good to know it's utilizing. I think a part of my issue with my CPU spiking is it might be time to replace the thermal paste on it. Mental Ray is resource hungry as hell. It can render some beautiful things but good like doing much with the machine if it's rendering a fairly complex scene in Mental Ray. I will see if my temps spike with other apps see if I can figure if it's just Terragen being the odd bunch or if it's time for new thermal. Also blowing a circuit at their home is just..wow I don't have words for that one honestly lol.
