I was doing a little experiment.............rendered the same subject in two different softwares. TG4 beta & Poser Pro 11..........this is the results. The eyes are different, that's the only thing.  :o

luvsmuzik

Is the Poser render missing a subdivision mask or some such critter? I know nothing about Poser, but I like the TG4 render better at this point.

yossam

The Poser render uses sub surface scattering.............that is the main difference.  ;)

DocCharly65

Somehow I like the shiny version of the Poser render a bit more. But could also be that I am influenced by the less creepy face expression.

Some day we will have sub surface scattering in TG as well....along with true greyscale transparency...but not soon I fear....

You can fake sub-surf effect in Terragen messing with translucency depending on the size of the model. Might have to be higher than 1 and given a tint.

Example gray sphere with translucency 3 tint orange yellow. In this case translucency controlled by same fractal that drives displacement (not really necessary)

*added a monolith for background and shadow examples - same translucency and sun light set to 5 in all

Dune

That's pretty good. I think the problems begin when you use a translucent object in darker areas, it might be too light then.

I found similar results and when I dialed the sun back to 1 it wasn't too bright....then I got carried away, the image title says what I did

I don't have played much with the translucency in faces... but sounds interesting!

Nice chewinggums, Fleetwood & Bobby  :)
