hi,

"I think not participating isn't what can hold out someone of this anymore except for living on a island without any electronics.
There needs to be more strict rules-changes."

That is what stuck reading the posts in this thread today. I disagree, totally. No offense.
But, that is a different discussion and this thread is not the place.

To the questions which started this discussion(...) I would like to express a few thoughts, though:
- Active or not, was not was more or less - everytime I posted I got instant feedback.
Even the developers participate very often in diverse threads. That is something I appreciate a lot.
What I mean to say is this: post your questions, works, files etc and you create activity as a result.

- Reading more about Terragen was asked for.
I kind of understand this demand. It is a laborious effort involving much scorching through the forum sections and pages.
Once you know what to search for it gets easier. At least it did for me. So, you have to invest time in reading.

-It often is said a lot of the tutorials still apply to TG3 and some techniques still are good for TG4.
While this maybe true in essence a beginner does not know that and might get the impression
of a not very well maintained application when she/he looks at the wiki, for example.
Updates are needed. I would opt for dedicated sections for TG2, TG3 and TG4
(even if that means copying and pasting the same content and simply putting a new version label on it).
For seasoned users needlessly complicated and redundant perhaps, but a new user could reach the site
for "her/his" version immideately - and I bet - feel in the right place ;)

-While I am going on about organizing useful content I have to say there is simply no better way than a dedicated forum;
Find the section you are interested in, go there and see the listed threads right in front of you. What could be easier?

I just took a look at the facebook page (and since I do nat have an account I get nagged with log in log in log banners all the time).
Is there any kind of organization over ther at all? I have to admit I am not one of the species of smartphone-thumb-scrollers
(I still use a computer at home with a huge monitor and lots of real estate) so I simply do not like the format.
Scrolling till world`s end is just not my thing. Perhaps this is all prone to user error handling such a site, forgive my ignorance.

- Active discussion I could not detect either.
Ok, I did not search very long but it seems to me the facebook page is what you use to post short notices, remarks or "likes".
Needless to say I don`t like the world of "likes".
Masonspappy put it already to words. (But I like the world of Blue Nodes...)

As long as there are two or more planetside places to be keeping the content more or less identical (official posts I am thinking of) is crucial.
But it is what it is - sooner or later this forum will shrink more and more down to die-hard users or ultimately vanish because it does not fit
into ways of modern communications.

- I for one think a "Image sharing" section is enough but if people are more attracted by the book`s cover give `em a thumbnail gallery.

ok, bored you all long enough for today ::) Signing off.
cheers, Klaus

Klaus since you use a smarthphone as i understand(?) you probably missed the point i am trying to say or i am not clear enough in what i mean. Anyway not a problem.

Facebook isn't organized at all and only kind of a showplace. I resisted very long to use it and still don't like it.
But for example mostly all the Terranuts guys went there. Terranuts is still open but practically death.
For daily fast conversations it is nice but for archiving and accessing old data no.

Edit: Klaus just to make clearer what i mean. With a 10 minute search i found (probably) your webpage and in the "Impressum und Disclaimer" page is probably more information where you live including email address and Telephone number, then you would put (at least directly) on Facebook. After that it is easy to find things like how old you are, the party you are in, your profession etc. Even if you don't use Facebook there is so much information around about us it is kinda scary really.

hi Kadri

No, I don`t use a smartphone, I don`t even own a mobile phone.
Not out of paranoistic tendencies but I get around well without it.

The information I put on the website is the information I choose to give out. At least I like to think so.
Where I live and my profession one can find in the local phonebook.

Sure, being in forums or mailing lists, buying online, or surfing the internet alone is
enough to leave a footprint and is basically no different to being on facebook or any other
so called social media platform. What I do not like is what all this data is kept for and used for.
Which I can`t even imagine. So I try to keep my digital traces as sparse as possible.
Perhaps that is just wishful thinking. Anyways...

I think I do understand what you say in your post. I simply do not agree.
Your interests in TG e.g made you use facebook in the end, mine won`t.
There is not much more to it.
As I said this thread is not the place for this and I didn`t want to make this a personal thing.
That sentence just stuck...

cheers, Klaus

I don't understand in what you not agree actually Klaus.
Feels more like a lost in translation to me but no problem.

Dune

Well, something got stirred alright. Anyway, I am quite like you, Klaus, no smartphone (I do have a mobile, but it's always off), no FB, and very careful what I put on the internet. And I also agree with masonspappy, this is the place for real TG discussion. I am striving to keep it alive anyway  ;)
