Hi Guys
Last year I was luckey enough to be asked to provide all the terragen work on one of the adverts for the winter Season of Audi Sales Event.
The spot had 3 terragen scenes, each split between fall/autumn and winter, so actually six shots in all; the trees and ground cover having to match pervectly between the autumn/fall and winter versions of each shot.
I did all the terragen work, Ethan Summers at Underground VFX was on art direction and FX and final comp and filming was done by Mission VFX.
Trees and veg by Xfrog and Speed Tree and me.

Yes, indeed cool, Richard! Looks absolutely believable.

Double Wow, Richard! As an Audi owner these commercials have caught my eye, and I thought they were absolutely amazing. And you guys used Terragen as well! Super!

Dune

Wow, that's a great result. Good on you, Richard!

Just saw this Richard, it all looks very believable, nice work. It would be great to see a VFX break down of this. Did you do the water moving at the beginning too? And the road at the end that the cars are on? CG cars right? You guys just swapped cameras to match?

cyphyr

Thanks :)
The water is not CGI. The camera moves were supplied by the client (The Mission) and we created two versions, an autumn and a winter for the three scenes that were Terregen, The cars driving parallel to the camera, the cars driving down the road by the lake and the cars driving towards the camera at the end. Yes the cars are all CGI and not rendered in Terregen. Depth passes were used to alter the haze levels and help run the change from Autumn to winter. Kicked up now and particles were done in Maya.
It's probably the most complex scene I've tackled so far and Terragens ability to work pretty much seamlessly with other programs via .chan and .fbx import and render layers made it pretty straightforward.

Missed this thread first time around.
Outstanding!

Cool. What was used for the closeup ice change animation under the dock?

I don't know, Terragen could have done it but I think that was done by the guys at Mission. It was a colaborative project with 4 players I now of, maybe more.
