After seeing the two Mars models I decided to look into YouTube and see what came up for "Terraforming Mars". I came up with this documentary:

Unfortunately all those videos are blocked from here in the U.K.

I was thinking that we've already recked one planet, do we really need to reck two.

At least for the planets: wouldn't it be cheaper to send a 3D sphere model with some texture to Shapeways or similar services? We all have lots and lots of planet maps, so I guess, that wouldn't be a problem.
40 pounds for one planet is quite pricey.
However, it looks cool!

I haven't yet watched this whole documentary but I remember something from another one that would probably make the attempt to terraform Mars not feasible. Because the planet has lost most of its magnetic field, it doesn't have a Van Allen radiation belt which keeps solar winds from stripping away the atmosphere.

I always thought (assumed?) it would take millions of years for an atmosphere to be stripped away by solar wind. Or at least thousands of years. If we can generate an atmosphere in only a few centuries or decades (not an easy thing anyway!) then perhaps the loss to space is not really an issue?

Just because milk is white doesn't mean that clouds are made of milk.

^^YES!!!

Lets do it!

But obviously, we cant. not because we wont be able to figure it it out at some point. But because environmental groups will sue and regulate to protect the dignity of rocks.

In high school I saw some movie or show or something where I was left thinking we should try to mine the moon. The girl I was talking to about it was dead set that we should leave the moon alone. Just some pseudo pegan ideological reasoning that it is morally wrong for man to expand any further. And that somehow we will harm the dead bodies that surround the earth.

Imagine the add campaign. A martian is looking over a valley on mars with pride. Then, a cut back to the same valley now covered with litter (coke cans and candy wrappers and such), now cut back to the martian close up, single tear roles down solemn check. Fade to Black.

ha ha. there is lots of crying on mars already.

So sad.

I am moved by this.

I change my vote to stay on Earth.

Mars for MARTIANS!
It has been eaten.

Mars is too small, 1/8th of the volume of the Earth (which should really be called the Aqua...).
Venus is a better choice, almost the same size as the earth with a really long day length, so no excuses for not getting things finished.

TheBadger

Hmmm. U know if mars had women, and Venus too. I would bet Venus ladies would be much nicer. The two Martian hags in my posts above don't do nothing for me.

Ok Penboack, you got my vote, lets grab Venus by the Maxwell Montes,
