There could be a plugin that allows exporting using other formats besides the default .skp file but do not quote me on that.

Or an online converter?

When I was exploring that a couple of years ago (at least) it was only possible to export obj using the paid version. I did find free third party converter then (possibly using an intermediate format, can't quite remember), but it was a fairly cumbersome process. The vast Sketchup library is very nice, though, especially for large objects like castles.

You export dae in Sketchup which Blender can convert.
Object stuccolit made in Sketchup, make as component group, export dae to Blender, export from Blender as obj.

Hint: important option is style for control of faces and materials :)

I thought of sculpting because Terragen is a landscape program and it would be possible in this way, without additional software, to customize the terrain and even create a new one from scratch. On the other hand, to be able to pull a few strings(vertices?) would also be welcome.
