The results I have been getting seem to depend on various factors. I suspect
that more viscous oil (such as animal fat like bacon or sausage grease) works
better than say vegetable oil. But when animal fat is cold it becomes more
opaque and even crystallizes sometimes which may interfere with the effect.
It also seems to help to bring the heat up fast but then the effect is very fleeting.
After trying two or three times with poor results a few days ago I managed to see
the effect fairly well but by the time I snapped the picture it was past its "peak".

Just ignore the scratches on the bottom of the pan. The pattern consists of
wavy line segments that vary from just a dot to segments about 20 times their
width. I'll post better results when I get them.
