Preset Shelf?

I'm just starting to get a handle on how the clip files work and especially Volkers method of keeping everything tidy inside individual named group nodes. Got me wondering, are there plans for an (ideally) browseable, preview based preset shelf system (or similar) to which we could add clips of atmospheres, clouds, terrains and useful textures etc?. It sure would sped up the tedious process of getting the scene to a state where its ready for fine tweaking and would allow new users to get good results right out of the box so to speak. If its not planned to be built in then is this the sort of thing that the plugin sdk would be able to cover.

Hi Richard,

I have some standard clips that I load with the startup-scene of terragen.
This is handy, but when hitting 'Assign shader', I have a very long list to choose from.

I already posted a few feature requests concerning this.
And I am glad that I am not alone ;D

I seem to remember that someone somewhere said something about presets for the final product and keeping the node system available for the people who like living there.   :D
So this is Disney World.  Can we live here?

Hi Richard,

We do plan to have some sort of library interface at some point. Hopefully before the final release, but I'm not sure yet. One thing you can do now, which it sounds like Volker does, is to create a project file which has all the different clips you want already in it. Then you can save that project file and use it as the startup file by choosing it Startup panel in the Preferences. Change the Project Creation popup to "Load from file" and then choose the project file using the Choose File button. Whenever TG2 starts up, or you create a new project, the project file you specified above will be used to load the default scene from.

Jo

I do the same.  I keep available a huge folder of clips (with sample image of the effect if applicable).  That way, if I need a certain affect or function, I simple import the clip and connect.

Hey Jo -

I have a network-related feature to add to the list of those requested. How about a 'Lock' feature that would prevent you from accidentally disconnecting connections? I'd accept it working either group by group or entire project at once - either way would be handy.

I know it's just one more item on the endless list, but it's sounded as if there was going to be some work done on the node UI (what with the drag selection box and all); this is probably my best chance, I'm a-thinkin'.

Great news, lookin' forward to it. :) Meantime I'll follow your suggestion and set up a clip project file.
