Hi All.
A week or so ago my primary hard drive failed with the loss of quite a lot of work. The SSD was just out of warranty also...double whammy!. The images I am uploading here are survivors from a USB key. All construction files related to these images are now gone so I can't change anything about them. The images relate to a personal animation project I was working on.

I don't think I can upload all six images in a single post due to size limitations, so I will comment here and relate other posts back to this post.

Island_01/02/03.

The island was built in WM at 8k.The trees where built in SpeedTree. There was about 7 different trees on the island ranging in height from 15 to 70 meters. Colour variance in the trees and canopy undulation was tricky to achieve, though not obvious in the images due to distance. When done badly, the island looked like a sponge checkerboard. I was finalising the shrubbery and smaller trees and palms where the forest meets the beech when the files where lost.

Rocky.
Standard TG stuff. A desert location that was to support a military aerodrome. The dude and the van are in the image twice to demonstrate scale. With this file I also lost some buildings and a C130 Hercules. The Herc was the single biggest loss.

Snow
This was a quick experiment, but related to Lake. The mountain was built in WM with a fractal layer added on top in TG, hence the Gnarly look. Snow was added for testing and then a tree for further testing. Changing a needle to white altered the tree a lot, but altering the bark texture so that it was covered by snow at its base required a bit more work, so left this image with the intent of expanding on it later.

Lake.
The mountain was built in WM, but unfortunately I could not use the beauty side of the mountain. The image shows the boring backside of the mountain. All foliage was built in SpeedTree. There are about 7 conifers built from a single base model. The base of the lake was painted brown to give the water a murky feel.

C and C is welcome on this work. While I cannot alter these images, any advice on improving the new versions would be welcome.

Regards.

Sorry to hear about your data loss! Cloud backup has been a lifesaver for me.

We strongly suggest that people do not post PNG images here, at least not for renders. They are a not a very efficient format for this kind of detailed imagery (they are more useful for line art, logos, etc.). A high quality JPG will give you visually indistinguishable results in a much smaller size. With a good JPG (Photoshop, XNview, and many others have good JPG compression systems), you could post all images in one post, and we encourage you to do so.

Im sorry to hear of the loss of your works, the pics you posted are beautiful. Ive had mechanical hard drives fail but never an SSD.  I keep some renders on onedrive  but after hearing this i really need to place everything on a thumbdrive at least. Thanks for sharing

J_Con

Thanks Oshyan. I will do that in future.

Jlsarnicola, thanks for the compliments.
I became complacent with my backing up. Trusted the technology. Lesson learned.
