Killer robots, no more science fiction.
If you aren't afraid yet, then you will be after seeing this video.

Deeply unsettling. Like with any other weapons, we'll need anti-robot robots.

Just like that "Sophia Awakens" video. I just hate drones buzzing above my head, especially when I'm out in the wilderness of my forests, away from the city. And to think this can be turned into a weapon...

@ otakar - anti-robot robots would require anti-anti-robot robots and so up to infinity. Check this out:

Poor visuals kind of, but really gets you thinking.
"This year - a factory of semiconductors. Next year - a factory of whole conductors!"

And then there is always the possibility that these things can go rogue. Oops, sorry!

Dune

Easier to replicate/manufacture than an atomb bomb, so the danger is quite real. Some countries or groups would go for it  8)

Seth

yeah, still science-fiction.
Did you even check the source of the vido ? :)

While the video is highly provocative, the elements of this threat do already exist and you can bet active development and testing is taking place under multiple government weapons programs.

The miniaturized drones are reality. Battery power could be an issue. Miniaturized high res cameras are certainly a reality. AI to control swarms of drones has been developed and is only improving. Miniaturized weapons systems? I am sure they are working on those, too. Networks of cameras for surveillance and facial recognition purposes? Check. https://techcrunch.com/2017/12/13/china-cctv-bbc-reporter/

We need to recognize that these new threats are coming and coming quickly and we need to be vigilant in demanding laws that strengthen privacy and individual freedoms while at the same time making sure we are not left defenseless in case this technology is unleashed by bad actors.

Just today I read an article about Russian soldiers having been attacked by grenade-equipped drones in Syria. More of a psychological attack than anything else, but still...
"This year - a factory of semiconductors. Next year - a factory of whole conductors!"

Seth

still, that video is not real.
it is just a video created by http://autonomousweapons.org/
and they say that robot killer and lethal autonomous weapons do not exist.

I agree it will certainly exist in the future but right now, all that is science-fiction.

Dune

Some explosives do not need much in terms of weight, and if a drone can recognize a face and come close, real damage is imminent. No longer SciFi, in my belief.
