...and having just scored the Steam Punk Gun Boat from somewhere I let my imagination run with it. The sky is a major tweak o a cloud setup also from a cyphyr .tgc called voroni storm clouds in my cyphyr directory.C&C as always welcome...

Oh I do like this. It looks like an illustration from a story book.
Maybe a few scattered trees and veg in the mid-ground and a deep dark foreboding forest in the background?
Good work!

and thanks for the inspiration and the cloud .tgc. In truth checking out that .tgc started this image. Yes as it's a fairly fast render I will follow your lead. Too friggin cold to go outside today  anyway!

heh heh,....normal temps actually...we've just come thru a warm spell. And really that's a misnomer as it's really Climate Change not Global Warming...no one really knows what it's gonna do long term. we could be heading for another ice age according to some forecasts.

Dune

To be honest, I liked the first version better. Some low unobtrusive shrub may do, but these trees take away the magic, IMO.
I would have put the landing perpendicular to the coast. Car wheels are okay in second render, not in first. I would also add specifics to the coastline, like some boulders/rocky shore line, wetness, perhaps some patches of dry grass further upcoast (in depressions). That sky is great, very subtle, what tgc is that?

first off it wasn't a .tgc but a .tgd so me searching for a clip was pointless but on page 40 something of his profile  I found this

secondly I agree there was not supposed to be that many and in a test didn't seem so. there's a smaller version that may work, don't have a lot of bushes...suppose I could sink a tree into the ground...done that before. In the first re deathracer, I hadn't compensated for slope and just dropped it to the ground, fixed in ver 2. I was actually going for dystopian in the first and was on the edge of crudding up the water tossing in some toxic barrels etc. Likley keep the distant trees and treat the foreground as a more arid space as they are separated by water.

Love the mood but the shore line needs breaking up.

Thanks, started working on an update and the foreground trees are gone so far and I've got shiny Fakestones along the shoreline coming out of the water and am trying to decide how arid the foreground is gonna wind up...coming soon

For some reason this scene reminds me of that game Delta Force: Land Warrior. Graphics were very much alike. :) Which is good.

Those "fluid" clouds are a nice addition.

So this is where I wandered to. Was somewhat mystified by the reflection disappearing on the closer fake stones till I realized they were in shadow and no light=no hot spots heh heh heh. The fake stones W reflection shaders doubled the render time as I did nothing else to this aside from chopping the pines in favour of the oleander bushes..looking now I see I missed item 2 on my list which was add detail to the road/path layer. C&C moist welcome.
