Hi Guys

I'm thinking about purchasing a license but have a few questions first.  I use Modo primarily for my modelling and animations.

I'm keen to use the work flow of Robert Perry [here https://vimeo.com/217227868 - on the Modo forum he said he used Spherical Renders of the sky and distant horizon from Terragen.  Are these spherical maps available on all versions?  Can they be exported as HDRI's?

Thanks

pokoy

I guess the free version will have limited render resolution but they are a feature of the camera and it's basically a checkbox you need to set, nothing else. TG aves high dynamic images to EXR, which is similar to HDR, so no problem here.

A personal note - I'm also doing aviation related stuff and rely on TG for exactly this purpose, spherical environments and sometimes backplates. TG has a a very natural sky model and beautiful clouds. Give the free version a go and decide for yourself!

Hi, pokoy.  Thanks for your reply, appreciated.  The free version, which I have downloaded, doesn't have the Spherical camera option according to the feature page, only professional version does at $699  Agreed the results look stunning.

Here's a link to my latest project if you're interested.  Nice to know we share similar interests.

Crap, I wasn't aware of the limitation in the free version, sorry.

Great looking plane - how could that thing even fly?  :D - and some great shading skills on all of your work!

Hey, pokoy.  No problem...and thanks :)

Any render can be exported in high dynamic range as an EXR. Spherical renders can be used as HDRIs/IBL in any app that supports EXR.

As you discovered, only the Professional version has Spherical output, but if you're interested in evaluating the future before buying, you can fill out this form:
