An own 3D scan of stones

Hi

Just a quick test and fun experimentation to create an own 3D scan of stones ground.. so I took my camera to take 39 pictures of same place at different angles (attached one preview on these real photos)

After I used VisualSFM and Meshlab to create 3D model and texture, and I rendered this quick sun animation with Terragen : https://vimeo.com/242711262

I did not succeed to have a high detailed object, despite of pictures resolution, but this test was funny to do

The result in animation is really pretty good! Comparable to many of the other photogrammetry asset demos I see all the time.

Thank you for this example and the links for the tutorials. That seems a free way to try scanning and the process for modeling the mesh does not seem complicated.

I am wondering if your rock study only included camera angle from top POV and not low, middle, and top? Were you trying to make a rock surface object to tile?

Hi,

I did top and middle captures.. the idea is more to isolate some stones to can use them as populations.. here a quick test render with one stone from a new 3D capture I did populated among procedural stones shaders

Great realism in your scanned rock, sorta jumps out of the render with the 'featureless" fake stones but they can, I realize, be tweaked and this is about how the scanned rock populated,...very nicely btw
