A little test using the soldier character I used for my Prometheus Cargo image.
Accidentally I stumbled across this site:
https://www.mixamo.com/#/
...which is absolutely cool! If you have a bipedal character (no need for any bone structure, just the mesh), you can upload it, and within minutes you'll get a ready boned and skinned character, or even an animated one as FBX.
Unfortunately TG doesn't read FBX (objects!!!!), so you still need another program to export object sequences.

Dune

Interesting site, but Malcolm is losing his arms already.
I'll check out your animation, have to download first....

Dune

Checked it out and THAT's SO COOL! These guys really run on ground. Some real sand and stuff would make this perfect.

Hetzen

That's really clever Hannes. Ulco mentioning sand reminded me of the David Lynch version of Dune.

Mixamo its exactly what Im using for a future short film project ;)
Hmmm, what version of Terragen does God use?

Hannes

Yes, and at the moment it's free. I read some posts that they made the service free for a limited time in 2015. Seems to be a quite long limited time. I love it!!!
I'm not sure if it would be possible to make TG accept these FBX objects. Mixamo builds some bone structures, skins the mesh and applies an animation to it, if you like. Even with an ultra long animation the file size stays more or less the same. Endless possibilities...

I really gotta start reading this forum regularly...brilliant and I'm gonna check on the free part as well. Thanks for the link.

Cool. Ever hear of Make Human (http://www.makehuman.org/) ? Check them out if you haven't. We've used them before to create varied people really quick and easy. For crowds, right now we are using Massive (http://www.massivesoftware.com/) after I export the TG terrain object (for shadows only). Then I composite the people back in over the Terragen plate. Nice work.

Hannes

Yes, I heard of it long ago. Seems they developed it quite a bit.

Massive? Wow!!! Cool stuff.

dorianvan

I use Massive for Max. There are almost no tut vids for using Max so I might do some for them in the next week or two.

I've been watching this over and over again for a couple minutes and really blown away. This is why I dream of buying Terragen. Not that I am not a crap modeler.
