Shadow map (in 3D)

It's probably impossible, but just for the record...
Is there a way to save a
shadow cast on an object
, for later postwork? Say, if i render an object or a person in another software and wish to cover it with appropriate shading later on.
I know - my postwork questions are painful to say the least.
