Is it possible to smooth vertical face noise? All the streaky lines, while maintaining it's slope?
In some instances it can actually add detail to your scene by showing through your lateral displacement, but in others I just don't like it.

Have you tried a smaller patch size in compute terrain?

Try feeding the power fractal through a transform shader, 'use world space' enabled. You are likely to see less stretching.
