Weird ocean cube

I decided to create a new thread, although this is sort of a surreal evolution of my "Another ocean" attempts.
There are combinations of altitude limits and simple shape shaders to create the fake subsurface scattering here.

Not a bad idea. I wonder how the animation would play out on rounded cube borders?

I tried doing a cube too but couldn't get exact results. Is it a surface layer with a child being a transformed setup stretched out with smoothing effect?
