Found an interesting setup

Not very pretty yet, but I have some smooth river bottom  :)

The Erosion heightfield helps a bit with the accentuated alpine fake erosion. Just play with slightly lower settings.

Also what does the fractal warp do in the mask? I'd think it'd do nothing since it isn't providing masking data?

Okay, my bad....I put the fractal warp back under the alpine, no visible change.
I also had upped the displacement on the gray rock surface layer to 20, so that made that rather crisp with the PF shader.

I could isolate the terrain more, but I kinda like this broader view.  :)

It's ironic you're playing with the fractal warp, as that's what I am doing as well, maybe this will be of some inspiration, just something I'm playing with (fractal warp scale has an extra 0 to accentuate effect).

15 years ago, I could design you an Access Switchboard though... :)
