I don't know exactly either, but noticed that with objects a 'use Y' setting works. It won't be much used for widepread pops or very far off 0/*/0 though, as the Y is taken from a planar altitude instead of the globe's curve.

Oh, okay. I think I understand. But why call it Y?  ::)

You have XYZ, so Y is the absolute vertical.
