Just a little experiment...

I would love to see a brighter version of this :) Perhaps some postwork to bring up the landscape without overexposing the sky?

I'm gonna play with this a little more. Still working on the shapes of the northern lights. After that I'm gonna work on the lighting and probably add some stars.

I actually *really* like it as-is, at least as far as lighting goes (the aurora effect is good but could be improved a bit with a little more distortion perhaps, i.e. not all straight lines). This is correct for my experience both in-person and having taken photos of aurora and tried to balance foreground lighting vs. sky. For example(s):

Sorry for digging up this thread again, but I had some ideas I wanted to test, so here's another update:

- Planted some grass on the roof of the cabin
- Modified some of the cabin's textures
- Made some changes to the grass in front of the cabin
- Small changes to the snow layer
- Added a deer

I originally wanted to go back to this scene just to plant some grass on the roof. It was not fun cause I wasn't able to plant it just on the roof. It also wanted to grow on top of the chimney. I tried restricting it with height, but it never worked, so I had to manually go in and remove hundreds of instances on that chimney  :(

I also think it was really hard to get the shaders correct on that deer. I think I worked way to much on it and now I'm not really sure about it anymore. Any suggestions or tips on how to work on shaders for something like this is much appreciated.

Absolutely stunning!!! The deer looks perfect! I'd say the grass on the roof is a nice addition, although I wouldn't have realized it's grass, if you hadn't mentioned it. Nevertheless it look great.
The whole image is incredibly photorealistic! Hats off!!!

Echo Hannes. Absolutely beautiful & photo-real image overall!

Echo the others and a tip...you CAN over-tweak shaders...I as well think the deer looks perfect...a very photo real composition...well done!

It's a fantastic update. The deer really gives it 'meaning', now something's happening, great. Shading looks good too. Strange that altitude restriction didn't work; it should if you use final position and Y. You could probably also have put a black simple shape just over the chimney, masking out that area, perhaps using a transform shader setting it to world space. What I've done too is making a second roof without unneccesary parts, just for planting stuff on. Invisible of course.

I'm not sure if I used final position and Y. I'll check, but can you explain what this mean. I don't understand the different use for them  :D

I don't know exactly either, but noticed that with objects a 'use Y' setting works. It won't be much used for widepread pops or very far off 0/*/0 though, as the Y is taken from a planar altitude instead of the globe's curve.
