here is an unsuccessful attempt at the graveyard scene.....

I couldnt get the moon map projection to work.....

the fog is actually a cloud layer

It's not awfully spectacular, yet, but can certainly be made so by adding a few trees and bushes and stuff. It sure has a spooky atmoshphere to it ;-)

hey...I was wondering...since it is heavy fog....would I get rays if I enable ray tracing? (you know hwat I mean).....

I really like it. Simple but effect. As FrankB said, it has a nice atmosphere.

I'm pretty sure if you enable ray tracing in the clouds you will get rays.
It's a cool picture, but I think it would be better with some rays. Give it a try.

I think you established the mood really well.  As Frank said, it would be good to add some more objects to flesh it out a little.

EDIT: You won't get rays by enabling raytracing in either clouds or atmosphere.  They actually only apply for special kinds of shadows.

Ok. Maybe if we say he will get shadows from the crosses in the atmosphere/clouds? Is that right?
I have never tested with objects inside my clouds.

If other conditions are right you'd get shadows in the clouds from the gravestones if you turned on raytraced shadows in the cloud layer Quality tab.

I kind of like the simplicity of the scene as it is. It's the kind of thing a photographer would be thrilled to come across in real life, but when making a virtual scene we often think "oh it's not interesting enough". Ironically photographers often look for that more simplified look in real life. So personally I'd stick with it and work on making the moon mapping work, and yes maybe see if the "rays" (really shadows) will turn out with that option on, although it will increase render time a good deal.

I think once the moon works well and detailed, this will be very atmospheric.  I too like the simplicity, since some of the best photographs tend to be very singular.
So this is Disney World.  Can we live here?

I agree with the others here, the simplicity of the scene is really cool. Get the moon working and your set.
If you want to use spherical mapping on the moon, download one of the many moon maps (try celestial motherload) apply the map in spherical mapping projection and copy and paste the moons dimensions and position into the mapping dialog and your set.
