Using GeoControl 2 for the terrain which is 4096 and all of the color here including the lakes and rivers are shaded from within GeoControl. The overall idea was to get as much color complexity/realism as possible from the color overlay map. There a two obvious mistakes, one being the edge of the lake in the upper left and the other i blended the edge shaders to much so the snow on the center left is slightly unaligned with the terrain but both are fixable. This render was more to demonstrait GeoControl's shader power trying to represent small-scale soil types, small vegetation, small rocks and of course water and snow. Also notice that the lakes are at different elevations as well, another wonderful feature of GeoControl 2.

how the hell did you get your hands on GC2??...

I downloaded the GC demo yesterday and I am already loving it.....

what do you mean by GeoControl's shader power??....is this the new feature in GC2??...

I like the sense of scale in this one......

According to Cajomi owners of GeoControl 1 will have available public access of GeoControl 2 in a few days i think. This is all i know at the moment. You would have to inquire with him for further questions. At the moment i am only beta testing GeoControl 2.

GeoControl uses color gradients, many of which i contributed to the program and single colors that map over any terrain and one can apply them using all sorts of various means.

This is also possible in TG2.

Nice pic by the way, hope to see more with fixes you mention.

Kevin.

Yes, but i have yet to see this and i often wonder how easy it is to do but here i am talking rivers that fill in lakes as well. With GeoControl 2 the River/Lake Tool starts as a spring at the highest points then drains into a valley filling a lake then there is a option were the lake can overflow as it drains into a lower point filling another lake at a lower elevation or even an ocean.

Thanks for the compliment.

Looks fun, Sethern.  Keep us posted, if you would.
So this is Disney World.  Can we live here?

I flubbed up. I had the GI up to 3 and looked at the progress the next morning and after 10 Hrs it was still calculating the GI. Oops!     ;D

I will have a go at this again after i turn the settings down a lot.

I think the standard GI setting are more then good enough in a scene like this, but you never know. I have been suprised.
Cool terrain by the way.

Here is the update. Only 3.5 hrs this time with the GI at 1 verses 3. The river streams are much more visible this time around as well.

I think the shoreline is too soft.....I like the clouds....very nice...

It is supposed to look that way. The color map shader is supposed to resemble mock-transparency as you can see here. I could easily get rid of that gradient though and make it a solid color just as easily as i could make a color ramp for all of the lakes faking transparency. This is another nice feature of GeoControl 2's shaders.
