Smoothing a landscape out.

Any good ways of smoothing out a specific area of your landscape, if it's rather choppy?  Not completely flattening with a simple shape but rather using the painted shader to 'average out' an area and maintaining relative (averaged) height.

Smoothing filter is one choice. But I prefer to start out with a smoother terrain and add finer displacements where I want them.

Created by Hetzen, it works on a global scale rather than locally - and the settings are adjustable.  Hope this helps!
They're all wasted!

I tried, I think the 'smoothing filter', in Surface Layer (if that's what you meant, Dune).  Seems to be working.

Okay, the smoothing isn't playing nice with my populations.

No, I meant the smoothing filter in other shaders. And you need to sit your pops on the last shader if you use smoothing in a surface shader like in displacement intersection.

Being new to the smoothing question, I'm not sure what other shaders have a smoothing filter.  The current results are acceptable, however. Rerouting the pop through the smoothed shader fix my problem though.  Thanks, again.
