Matt asked me to report this problem:
https://planetside.co.uk/forums/index.php/topic,26405.0.html

Basically, the sun is visible through thick clouds when it definitely shouldn't be.

See attached screenshot, a quick repro scene is attached too.

Turn off Visible Disc. It draws a literal disc of geometry, and doesn't handle occlusion well. There is in my opinion little need for it anyway in most cases since the area around the sun is bright enough with atmosphere glow, etc. that you don't see it in typical daytime Earth scenes.

I've posted this because Matt said so  :)

Indeed, I think your suggestion makes sense. But still, if possible, a fix would be best. Imagine rendering an animation where you need the full 32 bit information for post-production glare or as an environment for lighting etc. I guess the atmosphere alone will not display the same HDR value as the sun would.
Also, you'll avoid all the posts from new users in the future asking why the sun is visible when it shouldn't be with the default settings. It's a bit puzzling...

Fair point. I think he thought you had access to the issue tracking database (alpha testing) and assumed you'd file the issue there.

Ah sorry then - do you mean the alpha section here, yes I have access to it. Should I repost over there? Sorry, I wasn't sure how to report bugs.

I'll PM you with more info.
