A fantasy earth like planet. Probably complete nonsense from a scientific point of view, but who cares? ;)

I struggled with the ring's shadow onto the atmosphere:
https://planetside.co.uk/forums/index.php/topic,26825.0.html

so I took Jon's (Hetzen's) advice and comped the shadow in afterwards.
I used mostly image maps, except for the separation of land and water, which is procedural.

Great work!
The clouds are very good and I love the terrain.

Is there a bigger version somewhere?

Very convincing to me. Maybe better with less moons although.

Very nice! I feel there may be too much water, but that's just me. But I really like the idea of all this broken up terrains and "causeways" for the oceans. It's really imaginative.

The moons could maybe use more craters? Or perhaps their surfaces are "renewed" to often to show aged scarring.

Having been working with a lot satellite images of smaller moons and working on a crater shader and moon like impacts, I'm probably very bias at the moment though.

Here is a 4K version, Richard.

Lots more detail to inspect. Love it. Are the moons procedural or image mapped too?

Oshyan

Very nice indeed! I rather like the structure of the planet, all broken up with huge waterways, a planet of islands. Makes for some great reflections, anyway. :D

I echo WAS's question about the moons, I'd guess they're image maps. They do look nice, including some displacement.

Only thing I notice is a small yellow-green patch of color that looks out of place (most visible in 4k) near the top-left edge of the planet. An image map remnant?

Thanks guys! Yes, the moons are image mapped.

I'm not at home atm. Have to take a look tomorrow for the yellowish color thing. Haven't noticed it yet.

Very nice! Alpine Fractal?

Alpine fractal? No, where do you mean?

Matt

The Voronoi-ish looking patterns of the coastlines reminded me of the lead-in octaves of the Alpine Fractal, but I'm sure there are other ways to get a similar effect. I hope you'll give us some hints :)

Ah, I see. No, actually it's some node stuff from the file sharing section. As far as I remember, it's called "1m  cracks". As I said, I'm not at home atm, so I don't remember, who made it.
It's an intimidating pile of nodes, and I have absolutely no clue how it works, but it looks cool, and at the end there is a transform shader where you can adjust the overall size.
I used it for foam patterns for example.
