Here you can get a free cut-down non-commercial version of ZBrush.

You only need a free Pixologic account.

Oh cool. I can finally give it a try...maybe. Interesting though I can't get passed the form to download it where you click "Try ZBrush" and it's interesting it says "Try ZBrush" instead of "Download ZBrushMiniCore" or something.

So I gave this ZbrushMiniCore a try, and well... it kinda seems like a gimmick. I see no way to control polygon count, so whatever your sculpting is quickly a broken polygon mess. Maybe I just can't find it. Also no smooth brush that I can see. What you create is permeant.

Sculptris seams leagues better, and is a broken mess. Lol

Have you tried 3DCoat?

Might prove to be better than either ZBrush or Sculptris.

Zbrush is a great artist tool, unfortunately a poor pipeline ingredient, due to weird design decisions and poor level of automation, even if you take into account the plugins. Its sculpting tools still give best results, despite Blender and 3D Coat catching up (especially Blender - for non-hero sculpts I prefer Blender, much faster and easier to setup a quick sculpted scene). Good thing about ZBrush though (compared to other paid soft) is that there is no maintenance fee, so all upgrades are free (curious how long this will survive). Once a year there is a ZBrush Summit when you can buy it with around 200$ off. I think the main purpose of ZBrush mini is to boost sales, recently Blender made a noise with its cloth brush for sculpting.

I downloaded ZbrushMiniCore for a quick play. It's not that different to Sculptris except that it cannot import OBJ's which to my mind is a fairly important missing element.

I hope they are not planning to stop Sculptris as it's a capable lightweight clay modeller.
Great for making rocks!

It is good for rocks. I always liked it.

In minicore have you found how to add more polygons or reduce?
