Trying something different. I took a panoramic of a sword fern frond and made a fern. The cutting job could be a million times better but I wasn't going to sit there for hours manually doing it (didn't have a solid background, though I found a black felt blanket that should help), so I tried a generator, it did a meh job. Really muddled the detail but oh well, still works for semi-close to distant. Only issue is I forgot to apply gravity to the dead fronds so they area straight looking in example POV.

I do plan on sharing this if people want, I just gotta fix the summer/spring variant so the last seasons dead fronds have some gravity.

Credits: Example image features Xfrog's Giant Sequoia and Dune's grass, and some CC0 textures (where I went way overboard on moss disp lol).

PS I know there is some shadow issues I'm not sure how to fix them. UV is smooth and works fine in TreeIt and PoseRay and Blender.

Update: The TGO pack can be found through this post: https://planetside.co.uk/forums/index.php/topic,28541.new.html

Reference of the plant(s) the frond came from. Unfortunately wet today.

Very nice modelling and the picture looks very promising.

Hannes

Oh yes, looks great so far.

Very promising so far!
Great idea for a project!

Thanks guys. I have wanted some fern for years and what's free online doesn't really look good at all. Usually not enough fronds so you can see the fact it's just fronds sticking out of the ground with no bulbous base.

Reworked models.

Also posted the object pack up in the vegetation section (link in original post here).

Nice modeling! Look just like the ones growing in front of my house.
They're all wasted!

sboerner

Nice modeling and texturing! I can see these being useful in many types of scenes.

Yeah should be. The pack is free btw. Just punch in 0 if you can't afford to donate.  :)
