POV - Point Of View

when I say surfacing....it doesnt mean textures....although you can apply textures but you can also do surfacing within terragen 2

follow the link:

http://forums.planetside.co.uk/index.php?topic=2287.0

there are 2 tutorials in that thread and follow both closely

POV stands for "Point Of View."  Oftentimes you don't actually need to import textures into TG2 - try playing with the Power fractal shader and see what kinds of colors you can get from it ;).  There aren't really any base tips for making photorealistic images - it varies a lot from scene to scene.  I guess a couple of pointers would be to (usually) decrease the atmospheric haze a little bit and to make sure that any colors you add have a small enough scale to make the surface detailed.

thank you very much, rendering the peaks image again with the powerfractal-surface input-a merge-nodestructure....
while I am rendering, I have some questions; and yes, they are noob questions...

GI relative detail -what does it do?
GI sample quality - what does it do?
GI Surface Details - What does it do?
and, what does GI mean?

rcallicotte

Do some searches on the forum for these meanings.

Simply -

GI stands for Global Illumination

GI Relative Detail - the overall detail related to GI as it relates to your render
GI Sample Quality - how much quality you would like from the GI to affect the outcome of your render
GI Surface Details - GI related to the surface details

sry bout the noobish questions calico, I'll search before I post another one (;

heres an update, I used the fractal tutorial by Volker and it turned out better than the last one, at least so I think.

edit: changed the peak3 to peak4, same version only cropped and with the backmountain a bit sharpened.

old_blaggard

Yeah, much better - nice job :).

Oh wow.  Very nice, good job.

Indeed very nicely done. I like the contrast between the sky and the terrain.

Tangled-Universe

Yeah yeah, it has all been said already...this looks very nice! I love those ridges, very cool terrain! The clouds look great too.
