path tracing and Standard Rendering

OK update, completely forgot about render layers etc. My new question is, can you recommend any good free if possible software for combining these elements? Or would photoshop be possible?

HI hope you have all had a good Christmas, and New year.
I've been working on a render. I've imported a OBJ that I modelled, and want a metallic surface on some parts, which I have set up with no issues.
My only problem is they look better when I uses the path tracer.
Is there a way to render these using the path tracer, and the rest of my scene using the Standard renderer, as I just prefer the look of it for the landscape or render the objects against a transparent background

best wishes for 2022 Simon

Hi Balletdude,

Yes, it's possible to render the background terrain, etc with the standard renderer, and use path tracer for a hero OBJ.

I recommend watching Parts 23 - 26 in the "Terragen for VFX" videos, which focus on render layers.

In addition, check out this wiki tutorial for how to composit the rendered elements back together:

For still images, Photoshop may work fine.  For image sequences you're better off with dedicated compositing software like AfterEffects, Blackmagic Fusion, or Nuke.

Thank you. I completely forgot about using render layers.

Is there a way to stop bloom when I save/render the Alpha Channel? Maybe increasing Anti Alising?

Check the bloom settings under the Renderer's Filter Tab.

In the meantime, I'll work at updating the Render Node documentation here:

Thanks. I had a go yesterday, though there seems to be some transparency on my path tracing render. Will have to re watch the videos. Ignore the overuse of noise reduction (I did a quick render with the path tracer to chest it out )

You can have a look at Natron for sequence compositing:

https://natrongithub.github.io/
It looks very much like Nuke and is open source.
