Why? all i did was move one

on the rock in front i have displacement

i copied the rock and moved it back a little

now i have no displacement on the copy

Why is that?

Try checking-unchecking 'proper surface normals' in your object. It sometimes needs to update. I guess it's a cube or sphere? Or it's a masking issue, too local?
