Besides the trees given in the free xfrog package, is there any way I can get other trees for free? This is a lovely hobby but I do not want to blow 500 bucks on a few ridiculous tree graphics.

We will be providing more free plant models in the near future. There are also various other free plant model sources such as Plant Studio http://www.kurtz-fernhout.com/PlantStudio/ and the Xfrog public plants (old and outdated, but functional): http://web.inf.tu-dresden.de/ST2/cg/downloads/publicplants/

I haven't been able to get the public xfrog plants to work correctly even when exporting them from xfrogs 3.5 xfr to obj files... or direct downloads into obj...

There's arbaro at http://arbaro.sourceforge.net/

It can export in .obj format but it crashes TG2. Loading and saving in Blender creates an .obj that TG2 can cope with.
