Not bad for a first go at it, render quality was .75, clouds were .8 with GI at 2/2 Comments/thoughts appreciated!

Is this an image-driven or function-driven hurricane?
So this is Disney World.  Can we live here?

mrwho

oh, I wish it was function based  ;D

Is the image mask projected through the rendering camera?

mrwho

no, I attached the image mask to the input node of my cloud layer's density fractal

Yes, I mean what projection method are you using for the image mask itself (i.e. UV, cylindrical, Through camera) before it is input into the cloud density fractal?

mrwho

oh, I don't think I messed around with that, didn't think I had to :P It's set to through camera, I thought since it was on a cloud layer it would 'behave' correctly, guess not. It should be at spherical, right?

nvseal

No, spherical will try to spread the hurricane around the entire planet  :o, trust me it looks bad  ;)t. What you should try is to make a new camera, aim it directly down toward the ground (at a good altitude of course), and direct the mask to use that camera as the projection camera. Then the mask will wrap over the planet surface and you can then move the render camera around to different angles while the hurricane itself stays in the same location.

good suggestion, thanks. Interestingly though, when I connected the image mask to the fractal, it did stay in one place. I had to move my camera around to find it. Maybe that's normal, I wouldn't know. In the preview window, it did look like it curved over the planet, but again I'm not sure. I'll try your suggestion

the eye looks like a crater!....everything else seems fine for the first try!...
