I'm always surprised by how much Image Maps can add to a TG image. Nice work.

I agree.

Though I'd prefer function based stuff overall, image maps can really make an image pop.  And they render faster too.

that's the question i was aking to myself... is that more image map results or cracks and gashes results... ?

Outstanding Kevin. My favourites are the first and the last one (with image maps).
I'd be interested how the first one would look without image maps though.
Would you mind uploading the "Kevin tweaked function"?

Thanks,
Frank

O.K. Frank here's the tgd for the "nude" rockface. No Image map just a fairly basic fractal shader as a layer instead.
I've also included the jpg of the result and as you can see there is a big difference, but that's not surprising really when you consider how much is added by any image map. The results do vary a lot though depending on the image used, the one I used just suited that particular shape of structure really well.
I've also included as a separate post another none mapped image, but this one has been post processed by merging two different "nude" images (different fractal shader values) and applying various merge methods. The possibilities are endless, and even though it's not 100% TG the end result is still a nice image IMO). Hope our French chums understand this!

The world is round... so you have to use spherical projection.
