With the sun at a very low angle, GI on, my rendered scene is blank.  With GI off it works.

Try the new build that just came out today?

Yes.  And I'm getting counter errors in my grass population...

The scene rendered fine without GI, then I set it up at quality 1, GI, ran it, went to breakfast.  When I returned it was finished, after 43 minutes rendering, and utterly black.

Well that sucks! Didn't take you very long to find that one. Perhaps you should be a Alpha Tester?
I think I will wait and see what others find before I install the latest release.
Thanks for reporting it.

Hi Greg,

Can you send me your project? I'll do my best to diagnose the problem. Did you repeat the no-GI test with detail at 1?

Matt
Just because milk is white doesn't mean that clouds are made of milk.

The no-GI test was at .5.  I'd built that file in the previous version; Im recreating the scene now from scratch in the latest version.  Let me see if this works before I package the old one for you; maybe there was a conflict in settings or something; there are a lot of heavy files.

OK, I'll wait for those, thanks. I asked because was trying to confirm if it really works when GI is off.

I would still like to see the old files even if you get it to work by recreating from scratch in TP4. I don't think a mismatch of settings between TP3 and TP4 is likely to be the problem, but whether it is or not there's a bug that needs to be fixed. I know there are some problems which I am trying to debug using the "counter error" which you saw, so your files may be helpful.

Ill send you the tgd now so you can look at it; there are a lot opf associated textures and models, so those will have to be collected.

Matt did you get the file?

I'm rendering now in the recreated file and it seems to be working okay so far; I'll know in a few minutes.

As a quick test try rendering a scene with settings at default, but drop the sun to -2 degrees altitude.

Here are results of some tests.

Second image:  only change is enabling Enviro Light node

I have no idea why the model is half-black either...

That's possibly inverted faces (normals pointing inwards). Might also be double-sided polys, perhaps.
Some bits and bobs
The Galileo Fallacy, 'Argumentum ad Galileus':
"They laughed at Galileo. They're laughing at me. Therefore I am the next Galileo."

Nope. Galileo was right for the simpler reason that he was right.

The normals are fine.  Its something else, but I don't know what.

Here's a render, same settings, no gi, shadows on, over 1 hour when I stopped it:

This object rendering bug is killing me.  (Well my project anyway.)

Greg, are you referring to the black areas on your model, or the GI darkness issue? Do the black areas occur for you on other models?

I'm getting it in my wheat field render. the GI dots run fine but after that it just renders blackness...ment.
Weird thing is, if I did it on the quick render node before I updated to the new version it worked fine. Now it won't work on either.
I haven't tried it without GI to be frank, I'll try it now...................Yeah it works fine without GI.
Figured out how to do clicky signatures
