Bad Edges in vegetation

Hi All
Does anyone know why my plants have very bad edges?
I am using an .obj object and I have tried many things such as separete alpha, channeled alpha etc..
I was thinking maybe is the polygon count from xfrog, but I don't know how to change that.
Any advise?

what were your render quality settings?

Do you mean the population quality setting or the rendering?
My pouplation is at the highest, for the rendering I am usig the quick render, what are the quality setting for objects in the render tab?

The render quality settings! i.e. detail, AA etc.

It is the detail slider under quality that really makes the difference for rendering good quality objects, I have set it to 1.
Now I have better plants. However the rendering gets slower. Any tips to accelerate the process? If not no probs...

It's unlikely you'll need quality as high as 1, try 0.8 or less if poss. render times will come down and I difference in quality won't be that noticable if at all. The AA settings will also increase quality but don't need to go beyond 4 or 5 usually.

Something that Matt says can help is giving a little more to the Render-Effects-Soft Clips Effect.  Up the number to 1.5 or 2.

You will hear some divergence about AA.  I prefer 10 to 15.  Another place where there is some divergence is how much GI to give it and whether to use GI Surface Details or not.
So this is Disney World.  Can we live here?

LOL No wonder you hold the record for the longest render Calico!
I've never used it above 5!

Soft clip effect should make no difference to the edge quality. It is a tone map operator, changing the intensity of highlights in your image.

I've probably mentioned increasing exposure and decreasing constrast (or increasing gamma) when rendering scenes where the foreground is the main subject. TG's default exposure, contrast and sunlight intensity is often a little dark for foreground vegetation because it's been set up to boost contrast in medium and large scale landscapes where atmosphere usually washes things out a little.

If you have a bunch of object foliage as a population, you'll occasionally need huge AA settings.  Hopefully Planetside will smooth this out a bit in later releases (if possible).  As for standard rock, clouds, water, etc. 4 or 5 on AA can be suffice.

my final renders usually use AA 15 but i know some of us use 20 and i think that someone (T-U ?) tried 50 once ^^
4 or 5 is definitely not enough...
