I'm a bit unclear on exactly what your questions or concerns are. TG2 is essentially far more capable than TG 0.9 in every respect at this point. It is more demanding of system resources, so if you have an older computer TG 0.9 may still be a better choice for you, but if you are looking for more flexibility and power, or to increase realism, TG2 is your best option.
In the area of animation specifically there are both advantages and disadvantages. The biggest positive is that you can now animate virtually any setting, including textures, clouds, water, etc. along with the normal camera position, sun/lighting, and so on. The downside is there are no external animation editors like Campath or Terranim for TG2 yet, and the built-in animation tools are not yet as good as they need to be to fully enable sophisticated animations. You can easily do basic camera and lighting animation, and with a bit more advanced knowledge animating clouds and other elements works quite well too. However it is much more difficult to get the sweeping camera moves, rolls, and other complex camera movements possible in TG 0.9 using Campath or Terranim. In the future the animation tools will be improved significantly and will surpass the controls available for TG 0.9.
