Hi,
I was just looking thru some old texture tute folders I have here and ran into Dark Tree Simbiont Shaders.[ http://www.darksim.com/ ] Also in a lower folder there was one for IFW for LW Nodal Shaders[ http://www.shaders.co.uk/ifw2_nodal/index.htm ]. My query is this: Can these be used in TG2 and are they saying the same thing when they say "Shaders", as I'm coming to understand them in TG2?

Darktree textures would be nice to use in TG2 however this would require some on to write a Darktree pluging since Draktree uses a proprietary file format. My understanding is that there is an API for Darktree to write plugin's to make Darktree compatible with other applications, and a Darktree Plug-in for TG2 would be required before the two applications could talk to one another.

Regards to you.

yep ;D, they're all pretty much saying the same thing.  the term "shaders" is widely and generically used to describe almost anything having to do with texturing or surfacing your geometry.  people will tell you that their definition is more accurate than yours, but this is roughly the direction things take.

shading can be broken down into different channels, f.i.:  specular, diffuse, reflection, luminous, bump, refraction, transparency, translucency and color.

those ifw node are for lightwave only (afaik) and the are fantastic!

Yeah I know about the IFW node stuff as I'm primarily an Imagine3D and that's where those textures started, Imagine for Windows...LOL[when it migrated from the Amiga]...maybe a dead program but it's name lives on, and rightly so as it was one of the very first 3D apps waaaaay back on the Amiga in the '80s. So basically every one is sayin't he same thing...as I thought...when there's a SDK for TG2 maybe we'll get some cunning coder writing plugins for at least Dark Tree, dunno if IFW can be done as they're based on Imagine procedurals, which you would have to buy and they're not that cheap for the whole whack, although they are very powerful. One can only hope.
