A playful little image for the contest of the same name that took place over at Ashundar.

Very nice.  Recommendation - use a blending shader with the grass to make realistic patches of your grass.  I did it here - http://calico1.deviantart.com/art/Dino-vs-Dragon-94300049 if you're interested.

Lighting is good.  Great point of view with the cactus.  Love your clouds.
So this is Disney World.  Can we live here?

HI OB, what kind of sky shaders did you use?  I like the less dramatic type of cloud structure and sky coloring because I believe it distracts less from what is going on with the ground level landscape itself.  Nice cacti, terrain and lighting, and desert foliage scenes always seem to bring a quiet peace to my soul.

Thanks for the comments.

arisdemos - I used one simple cloud layer for the clouds, and I increased the glow power in the lighting settings of the atmosphere to get the brightness to the left.

Calico - I agree that using a blendshader has its benefits, but I frankly feel that the patchiness of grass is often overdone.  When I'm walking around in the prairie that's fairly close to my home, I rarely see any kind of clumping.  When looking at renders that feature large grass expanses, it's actually the ones with the soft, noisy patterns that look the nicest to me and seem to have the most realism.  Not to say that patchy grass doesn't have its place (it works really well in your image); I just don't feel like it fits into what I was trying to accomplish here very well.

It's a very pleasant image and I appreciate your explanation.  Nice to have a pattern from reality.

Very nice... thou I wonder how a cacti came to be in that field ;)

Hmmm...strange I did miss this one somehow, it's a fine image!
I like the cactus-model and the grasses. Good lighting in overall. The clouds aren't really my personal taste but I don't think they look that bad at all.
What kind of grass-models did you use? The lighter ones seem to be from Klas? Perhaps I'm mistaking :)
I don't think the grasses need that much patchy look I think. If so, it has to be very subtle.
Maybe it would be nice to add some big rocks here and there, just a couple.

Oh that's very well possible I think...I've seen an episode of Planet Earth from BBC where a piece of desert with large cacti began to flourish after rainfall, even during rainfall. From the ground many grasses and tiny flowers arose. Amazing!

Thanks for the rest of the comments.  I did forget to mention that there are a couple of lightning grasses and klas's grass.  All of the other models are from Ashundar.
