I'm fairly certain the cloud function accepts 3D, volumetric information, but how it treats it can mess with explicit shapes if you don't turn off all the tweaks (flatter base, etc.). I've seem pyramids done with clouds, and an inverted pyramid would be an overhang basically, so I do think it's possible.
