After seeing Seth's image entitled "Up there" I began to realise that the ground detail in my pictures was unrealistic by comparrison -  to say the least! :-[

So, I set out to create a relistic looking surface that you could reach out and touch, or scuff with your feet.

That was my main target in this image.

The tree's are there to give a sense of perspective; I like the way the light shines onto the top of the canopy.  8)

The sky was very much a token afterthought.

So, here is my second submisison :  http://www.flickr.com/photos/30418909@N06/2858644349/sizes/o/

I like the whole picture but I think the ground is a little too bright and i'd change that, but I want to create another picture now...

Comments and advice definitely welcome - especially concerning the ground!

I recommend going over this tutorial to better understand surfacing - http://forums.planetside.co.uk/index.php?topic=2287.0

I've used this tutorial multiple times and learn something every time I go through it.  Great understanding.  There are other ways to get some tutorials others have shared.  Moodflow has something around here where he used the Default Shader to create levels to get some very cool looking terrain.  I'm not sure where that tutorial is right now.  I'll look.
