after a while away from rendering, I have returned with another 'rock study'...this uses calico's canyon build as a base (which I modified further!!)..I then applied several redirect and strata shaders, along with a couple of power fractal and image map layers...slight contrast/saturation and sharpening tweaks in ps...feel free to comment or critique, as always, these are very much welcome and appreciated!

This looks very surreal.  I'm not sure why I like it exactly, but it does like an imaginative place.  The rocks could use a little more detailing.  Maybe a small rowboat in the middle of the water with a little water agitation could scale it.
So this is Disney World.  Can we live here?

very unusual shapes, but vry interesting formation at the same time. I think I like Calico's suggestion with the boat. I would like to see this scene evolve.

I agree that it could use some scaling and maybe a little work on the more artistic side, but on the technique side you've really managed to get the most interesting displacement that I've seen in quite a while.

thanks for the input guys...much appreciated!...i agree with what you have said, and will continue to tinker with this, perhaps adding some vegetation etc.
btw, I also used two flavours of voronoi on the displacements.
