My first image that I felt wasn't a complete disaster  . It's pretty simple, just slapped a few powerfractals and a low-level cumulus layer on the planet. I adjusted the contrast in Paint.net and that was about it with the postwork. Feel free to share your ideas on it  .

P.S: Sorry for the small size, I have yet to purchase the deep version so 800 x 600 was the best I could get.

I like that "diamond ring" effect, like in an eclypse.

This is pretty nice.  Your stars could be more realistic with varying degrees of brightness.  You could include something to the terrain to make it more interesting.  Still, I like the lighting and the emphasis on the "diamond ring" effect like Mahnmut said.
