asteroid field out of rocks?

Now i know you can create a planetary ring with the ring object but is their away to create a planetary ring out of actual asteroids?
such as this?

Someone did this.  I think it was Will.  Just look around for asteroid ring by searching and I think there was even a TGD available.

This is what I was remembering.  You'll need an image of some sort of rock.  I believe Will first submitted this one.
